Question: What is your favorite school subject:
Answer: I would have to say that my favorite subject is either math or science (surprise, surprise). Maybe it’s because my dad is university science professor, or maybe I’ve had great teachers in the past. Or maybe I just love math and science for some subliminal reason I can’t really explain.
Question: What hobbies or extra-curricular activities do you enjoy and why?
Answer: I have so many extra-curricular activities it’s not even funny. First of all, I play the cello in my school orchestra and at home. I also go to Art Club because I really enjoy drawing, painting and all that. I used to go to Montana Outdoor Science School (MOSS) Club, which included natural sciences and that kind of stuff. This year was my last year participating in FIRST Lego League (FLL) tournaments, and I plan to go onto the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) in high school. And then, of course, I did YSC last year too, and so I’m doing it again. It gets busy, but it’s lots of fun.
Question: What career do you want to pursue and why?
Answer: This question comes up pretty much everywhere. Truthfully, I’m not really sure what kind of career I want to go into. Probably something involving math or science, maybe a marine biologist? Or a physicist? I want to do something worthwhile that will help advance human knowledge and save the planet, with the situation we’re in right now. I don’t have anything really specific planned out, though.
Question: What prompted you to enter the Young Scientist Challenge?
Answer: The first time I did YSC was last year when I saw the Mythbusters episode on it. So, I already knew about it for this year. I really love science in the first place, and I just couldn’t miss the chance for fame and fortune.
Question: What about science fascinates you (or more simply, what do you like about science)?
Answer: I really can’t answer this question without writing a whole paper on it, so I’m going to try my best to stuff it all into one paragraph. First of all, I love nature and animals, so biology is pretty awesome that way. Also, hands-on experiments are my thing. Mwahahaha… mixing chemicals to make fizzy concoctions of doom… Um, anyway, I guess just I want to know how everything in the universe works, even though all that information would probably explode my brain.
Question: Anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself?
Answer: I love dragons! Especially drawing them. That’s one of the main things everyone should know about me. Ya, I know they’re made-up, but it’s a big universe out there…

Answer: I like science mostly because it helps people live better. There are many problems that need solutions or things that could be improved to make our world a better place. By solving one of these problems you know that your work will affect the whole world. I think it's great that through science anyone with an idea can make a big impact on the earth and human life.
Question: Anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself?
Answer: In the future I would like to continue to pursue my project. The hoses would be hooked up to an irrigation system so that different walls would receive water at different times of day, depending on the location of the sun. I am also planning to experiment with different types of stucco to see if there is a potential problem with erosion. I would then like to make a full sized prototype and use it on my home in the hotter months.

Question: What is your favorite school subject:
Answer: My favorite school subject would have to be either science or social studies. I like science because it’s so fun! There’s just so much science all around you, you just have to realize it. Social studies are also fun because, if you think about it in a different way, it’s not just boring history and geography. It’s everyone’s story, and how they lived/live the past and present.
Question: What hobbies or extra-curricular activities do you enjoy and why?
Answer: I love music; I play the piano and the cello. It speaks in its own language. Music can shout or whisper, flutter or storm across the page. Art is another hobby I enjoy. I paint, draw, and create sculptures. The details are my favorite parts. I also like writing because I am in control. I catch the words floating in my mind, and arrange them to make a story or write a report.
Question: What career do you want to pursue and why?
Answer: I want to become a middle school teacher because I think that’s when kids learn the most interesting things. We discover new math formulas, develop our writing skills, learn about intriguing cultures from centuries ago, and, of course, advance in science! I just love the look on the other students’ faces when I explain things to them. They have a face that says: “Oh, I get it. Wow, I know so much now!” I want to be able to leave an impression on kids’ lives, and help them move toward the future. Everyone had a teacher: Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Benjamin Franklin, and so many others. Who knows, maybe I could teach the next genius!
Question: What prompted you to enter the Young Scientist Challenge?
Answer: My teacher nominated me to be in the 3M Young Scientist Challenge, and I thought it was a really cool idea! I could demonstrate how to fix a problem by using science, and show how it’s used every day. Science isn’t just a thing in textbooks and classrooms; it’s something that everything relates to.
Question: What about science fascinates you (or more simply, what do you like about science)?
Answer: I like science because, just when you think you know everything about the world, you realize there’s more out there than you could possibly imagine. Every little crumb to every huge galaxy full of planets and stars has its own story to tell and its own mystery to figure out.
Question: Anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself?
Answer: I am an ambitious person. I like finishing things, like puzzles, as you can probably tell from the video. Science is kind of like a puzzle, I think, because the more little pieces you put together, the better you can see the entire picture. I like the feeling of accomplishment I get at the end.
